SNOWSHOEING
The Alta Badia cross-country ski school and the mountain guides organize weekly excursions with snowshoes and Nordic walking accompanied by a guide on over 80 km of carefully prepared trails for winter hiking.
In the past, snowshoes were primarily used by farmers and hunters to traverse white expanses of fresh snow.
Snowshoes – also called snowshoes – prevented sinking into the blanket of fresh snow. The first models were made with a wooden frame and strips of leather tied together; a strap connected the shoes to the frame/racket.
Modern snowshoes, made of lighter and more practical materials, have been rediscovered by hikers who love the winter mountains. For easy routes, in fact, no special preparations or specific training are required, and no particular technical knowledge is needed.
Walking with the appropriate poles also engages and strengthens the muscles of the arms and chest, loosens muscle tension in the shoulders and neck, reduces knee strain, and decreases the risk of slipping on ice.

Telemark
Free-heel skiing… Skiing par excellence!
This technique was invented in the snowy region of Telemark, Norway, in the mid-19th century and is considered the beginning of skiing as a sport.
Originally, the only way to travel on snow in winter was to slide on two very long wooden planks using a long stick as a rudder and brake; however, curving or tackling descents was very difficult.
The free-heel technique of telemark skiing became the only one that allowed steep descents and easy turns until the advent, after the mid-20th century, of parallel skiing with a locked heel.
At the La Villa Ski School and the Dolomites Ski School, you will find specialized teachers in telemark skiing ready to teach you the technique!
